Dive into the vibrant world of anime and manga with this engaging art workshop designed especially for young creatives aged 10 to 18. Whether your child is a beginner or has some drawing experience, this session offers a fun and supportive environment to develop their skills.
Local illustrator Tsunami Hee Ja will guide participants through creating their own manga character portraits. Kids will learn how to express emotions, vary facial features, and add unique traits to make their characters truly stand out.
This workshop is a fantastic opportunity for your child to explore their artistic talents, gain confidence, and connect with others who share their passion for anime and manga.
The workshop runs for 1.5 hours, starting at 10:00 and finishing at 11:30 on 28 March 2026. It is held at the Torrens Valley Community Centre, located at 45 Albert St, Gumeracha.
The session is subsidised by Adelaide Hills Council Arts, Culture & Youth Development, making it affordable at just $10 per participant. All materials and guidance will be provided by the instructor.
This event is perfect for school-aged children during Harmony Week, offering a creative outlet that celebrates diversity and artistic expression.
The workshop takes place at the Torrens Valley Community Centre within the Community Hub, which also houses the Gumeracha Town Hall and library.
Parking is convenient with multiple areas around the community hub, including 2 electric vehicle charging parks and a disabled parking space at the rear. Additional parking is available near the Gumeracha sporting oval, suitable for buses or mini vans.
The centre is fully accessible with ramps, disabled toilets, and wide entrances. It is an inclusive space welcoming everyone, including LGBTQI+ families and those requiring breastfeeding facilities.
The community centre operates Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 15:00 and is closed on Fridays and public holidays. In case of Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings for the Mt Lofty Ranges, the centre will close and all classes will be cancelled with refunds or rescheduling offered.
Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring a torch or phone light if attending evening events. Facilities include toilets, baby change tables, a kitchen with a microwave and kettle, and water and hot drinks are available.
This workshop welcomes beginners and encourages participants to work at their own pace, ensuring a supportive and enjoyable experience.
Tickets are priced at $10 per participant and must be booked online in advance. The subsidy from Adelaide Hills Council ensures this creative opportunity is accessible to many.
Early booking is recommended due to limited spaces and to secure your child's spot in this popular workshop.
