Art and Imagination offers a welcoming and supportive environment where people living with dementia and their carers can engage meaningfully with art. Each session is designed to encourage expression and conversation through group discussions centered around selected artworks. Participants will explore three to four artworks per session, fostering creativity and connection.
The program is based on the award-winning Art and Dementia initiative by the National Gallery of Australia, ensuring a thoughtful and impactful experience. Sessions are hosted by trained artist-educators and volunteers who create a fun and encouraging atmosphere.
Participants receive printed copies of the artworks discussed, allowing them to continue enjoying and reflecting on the art at home.
Sessions run monthly on the last Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:00, lasting about one hour. They are free of charge and suitable for individuals living with dementia at home or in aged care settings, as well as their carers.
Group bookings can be arranged for aged care services and community groups by contacting the gallery directly. Individual participants must book a ticket in advance due to limited spaces.
