What to Expect
Belgrave Survival Day is a vibrant annual community event held on Wurundjeri Country in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges. This family-friendly gathering celebrates the survival, strength, and culture of First Nations peoples through a rich program of activities.
Enjoy a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country led by Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Joy Murphy, browse the Artist Market featuring local First Nations makers, and indulge in delicious food and beverage stalls. The day also includes panel discussions, a dance workshop with Djirri Djirri, and live music performances by Kutcha Edwards, Kiwat Kennell, and the Yeng Gali Mullum Choir.
This free event invites you to bring your chairs, rugs, sun and rain protection, and your community spirit for a meaningful day of truth-telling and respect.
Activity Details
The event runs on Saturday, 21 February 2026, from 14:00 to 19:00. It is coordinated by the Belgrave Survival Day Committee and presented in partnership with Burrinja Cultural Centre, Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place, Yarra Ranges Council, and 3MDR Mountain District Radio, who will broadcast live from 17:00 to 19:00.
Activities include cultural ceremonies, markets, panel discussions, workshops, and live music, creating an engaging and educational experience for all ages. The event fosters awareness and understanding of First Nations histories, cultures, and sovereignty.
Location and Access
Belgrave Survival Day takes place at Borthwick Park, Wurundjeri Country, Belgrave, VIC 3160. The park is accessible via a steep footpath approximately 800 meters from Belgrave Train Station and bus interchange, a 10-minute walk.
Free car parking is available at Belgrave Train Station, with drop-off zones near Belgrave Outdoor Pool. Attendees should be prepared for a busy outdoor event with amplified sound.

This event acknowledges the sacred lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations and honors their enduring connection to land, water, and community. It is a space of respect, solidarity, and truth-telling.
