What to Expect

Activity Details
The Big Summer Read starts on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at 10:00 AM and runs until Sunday, 1 February 2026, at 6:00 PM. Participants receive registration packs containing challenge sheets. Completing each sheet by reading 20 books or fulfilling challenges earns prizes such as a choice from the prize box or vouchers for movies or books.
Children tick off challenges as they complete them, with a parent or guardian signing off each sheet. Completed sheets and creative entries like colouring or short stories can be submitted to the library for prizes and display.
The program is open to South Australian residents only and is part of the City of Unley school holiday program. Registration is free and available at Unley Libraries.
Location and Access
The Big Summer Read takes place at Unley Libraries, including Unley Civic Library at 181 Unley Road, Unley, and Goodwood Library at 101 Goodwood Road, Goodwood. Both locations are welcoming and accessible, providing a comfortable environment for children and families.
Libraries offer a great space to explore books, participate in challenges, and collect prizes. The libraries are conveniently located with public transport options and parking nearby.
Families can visit either library to register, submit completed challenge sheets, and enjoy additional library resources and programs during the summer.
Important Information
This event is free to join and open to children and teens aged 0-18 years. Registration is required to receive the challenge sheets and participate in the prize draws.
Challenge sheets must be completed and returned by Sunday, 1 February 2026. Special prize winners will be notified by phone. Parents should ensure they sign off completed challenges.
The program encourages reading all types of books, including audiobooks, picture books, and graphic novels. Multiple entries are welcome, and children can read the same book multiple times to complete challenges.
