Discover the fascinating craft of blacksmithing in this hands-on beginner workshop led by Australian Champion blacksmith Terry Drennan. Perfect for parents and teens aged 16 and over, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to create your own blacksmithing tools while learning essential skills in a supportive environment.
Join a small group of participants in a custom-built blacksmithing shop where you'll operate a forge and use traditional tools and an anvil. You'll craft your own cold chisel, hot cutter, round punch, centre punch, and tongs to take home. Spectators are welcome, making it a great family outing.
The workshop runs from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM and is suitable for anyone aged 16 years and older. Closed-in boots or steel-capped shoes, long pants, and long sleeves are required for safety. After completing this beginner course, you can advance to more complex blacksmithing workshops.
Held at Queensland Museum Cobb+Co, located at 27 Lindsay St, Toowoomba City QLD 4350, the venue offers convenient parking including coach parking, family-friendly facilities, a cafe, and public toilets. The museum setting adds a cultural backdrop to your creative experience.
Safety gear is mandatory, so please come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear. The workshop size is limited to ensure personalized guidance from Terry Drennan, who brings over 20 years of teaching experience. This event is non-smoking and includes access to parents' rooms.
