What to Expect
This award-winning community event offers a fantastic opportunity for families to responsibly recycle small and tricky items that don’t fit in your kerbside bin. It’s a great way to teach children about sustainability and the importance of reducing waste.
You can bring a variety of items such as plastic bottle tops, bread tags, metal lids, pens, and even medicinal blister packs. There’s also a donation box for Give Write, adding a charitable element to your visit.
The event is free and welcoming to all ages, making it a perfect family outing that supports environmental awareness and community spirit.
Activity Details
The event runs monthly from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on the second Saturday of each month, starting 14 February 2026 through to 9 January 2027. No bookings are necessary, so you can drop in at your convenience within the time frame.
Accepted items include:
- Plastic bottle tops, bread tags, can clips, and straws
- Metal bottle tops, lids, and aluminium can ring pulls
- Household oral care waste and disposable razors
- Pens, markers, medicinal asthma inhalers, and blister packs (fees apply for some)
Additional recycling options for batteries, light bulbs, phones, and chargers are available year-round at designated locations.
Location and Access
The event takes place at the City of Melville EcoHub, located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop WA 6150. The EcoHub is easily accessible by car and public transport, with clear signage to guide visitors.
There is ample parking available on-site, and the venue is family-friendly and safe for children to explore.
The EcoHub also serves as a recycling hub throughout the year for other hazardous waste items, making it a convenient spot for ongoing sustainable practices.
Important Information
This event is free to attend, but a gold coin donation is greatly appreciated to support the community initiatives.
Please ensure items like plastic tripper pumps have springs removed before dropping off. Household amounts only are accepted for oral care waste.
Medicinal blister packs may incur a fee, so check in advance if you plan to bring these.
For batteries, light bulbs, and phones, please use the designated year-round drop-off points if you cannot attend the event.
