Under the expert guidance of Mark Grunden, a maestro known from Bad Boys Batucada and Tumbarumba, you will explore traditional Brazilian percussion techniques. From samba to samba reggae, the sessions cover a variety of powerful rhythms using authentic instruments and occasional vocals to keep things lively. Expect a fun, supportive environment where making music and friends go hand in hand.
Classes run every Thursday during school terms from 19:00 to 21:00. You can join anytime without a strict course structure, learning basics and progressing through different rhythms and songs. Instruments are provided, but bringing ear plugs, drinks, and snacks is recommended. The first class costs $10, then $20 per session ($15 concession), with a special membership for five classes offering a freebie.
The classes take place at 49 Nicholson Street, Brunswick East, in a hall located underneath the church. Public transport options include Tram Number 96 (Stop 20) and Bus Numbers 250, 251 (Holden St), and 504 (Park St), making it easy to reach.
