Step into the enchanting world of butterflies with expert guides who will take you and your family on a journey through the lifecycle of these delicate creatures. You'll explore the back-of-house Caterpillar Greenhouses to see eggs, chrysalis, and caterpillars in their early stages.
Get creative by making flower or fruit bouquets to enrich the butterflies' environment, tapping into your inner florist. Finally, enjoy placing your creations in the heritage Butterfly House and capture colorful photos to remember this magical day.
This experience highlights the vital role butterflies play as pollinators in maintaining healthy ecosystems, making it both educational and fun for children and adults alike.
The Butterfly Experience runs daily at 11:15 and lasts approximately 35 minutes. It is designed for small groups with a maximum of 6 participants to ensure a personal and engaging encounter.
Participants must be at least 4 years old, and children aged 4-12 must be accompanied by adults at a ratio of one adult per three children or two adults per four children. Closed-toed shoes are mandatory for all attendees.
Please note that this experience is not allergen friendly due to pollen, flower, and fruit allergens. Accessibility modifications are available upon request by contacting the zoo in advance.
Meet at the Golden Elephant Roundabout, located in the center of Melbourne Zoo. The zoo is open daily from 9:00 to 17:00.
