Celebrate Lunar New Year at Market City

Step into the festive spirit at Market City Shopping Centre this Lunar New Year, where culture, fun, and food come together for an unforgettable family celebration. From giant Year of the Horse installations to lively lion dance performances, there is something to delight every member of the family.

What to Expect

Enjoy spectacular High Pole Lion Dance Acrobatics by Jin Wu Koon, witness store blessings, and participate in kids’ lion dance workshops. Capture memorable photos with stunning installations and indulge in authentic Asian cuisine at the 1909 Dining Precinct. The event also features massive giveaways including lucky coins, plush horses, and retail vouchers.

- Giant Year of the Horse Installations at Level 1 Centre Court and Level 3 1909 Dining Precinct

- High Pole Lion Dance Acrobatics on 14 and 15 February at 14:00 and 18:00

- Kids Lion Dance Workshops on 7 and 22 February at 14:00, 15:00, and 17:00

- Store Blessings on 15 February from 16:30 to 18:00

- Personalised Calligraphy Station from 31 January to 13 February and 16 to 18 February (fees apply)

- Authentic Asian dining daily from 11:00 to 22:00

Location and Access

The celebrations take place at Market City Shopping Centre, located at 9-13 Hay St, Haymarket NSW 2000. Events are held mainly at Level 1 Centre Court and Level 3 1909 Dining Precinct. Enjoy free parking after 18:00 when dining at the 1909 Dining Precinct or any restaurant on Level 3, with ticket validation. Additional free parking is available at The Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant between 09:00 and 15:30.

Important Information

This family-friendly festival runs daily from 09:00 to 22:00 between 13 January and 1 March 2026. Some activities, such as the personalised calligraphy station, require a fee. The event is suitable for all ages and offers a rich cultural experience in the heart of Chinatown. Don’t miss out on the giveaways and workshops designed especially for children.

Booking and Prices

All events and activities are free to attend except for the personalised calligraphy station, which has a fee. No prior booking is required for most activities. For dining, reservations are recommended at the 1909 Dining Precinct to ensure availability.
