Experience a powerful theatre performance sharing the real-life stories of young refugees overcoming adversity to start anew in Australia.


Join us for an unforgettable performance of Treehouse Theatre's Chasing Freedom, where young refugees bravely share their journeys escaping war and persecution. This moving production is the result of 13 weeks of group counselling and trauma recovery, empowering participants to find their voices in a safe environment.

What to Expect

This poignant theatre experience invites families, educators, and community workers to engage deeply with the refugee experience, fostering empathy and understanding. Suitable for ages 12 and up, the performance includes a 10-minute post-show Q&A where audiences can connect with the cast and creative team. Expect a 90-minute show with no interval, featuring authentic narratives that inspire resilience and hope.

Activity Details

The performance runs from November 13 to 15, 2025, at the York Theatre within Seymour Centre. Showtimes are 10:00 on November 13 and 14, an additional 12:30 show on November 14, and a 16:00 show on November 15. Partial lockout applies, allowing patrons to enter between vignettes. The event is recommended for ages 10 and above and contains loud or sudden noises. Photography and filming are strictly prohibited.

Important Information

Tickets for students are $20, with one teacher free per 10 students and $20 for each additional teacher. Adult tickets are $30, and concessions are $25. A $7 transaction fee applies for general public bookings but not for school bookings. Full payment for school bookings is due by October 2, 2025. The event supports curriculum links for years 7-12 across English, PDHPE, Geography, Drama, History, Society and Culture, and wellbeing programs.

Tickets can be purchased through the Seymour Centre Box Office, the only authorised seller. School bookings require contacting the Box Office directly from October 30, 2025. Please be prepared to present ID for concession tickets. This is a meaningful opportunity to support young refugees and enrich educational experiences through theatre.
