Children's Book Week 2026 invites families to immerse themselves in the joy of Australian children's literature through a week-long celebration filled with engaging activities and events. This year’s theme, 'A Symphony of Stories,' highlights the diversity and harmony found in storytelling, perfect for sparking young imaginations.
Enjoy a variety of fun and educational experiences including library visits for kindergarten and homeschooling groups, school presentations for early learners, a scavenger hunt to find hidden book covers, and a creative bookmark design competition. Each activity is designed to inspire a love of reading and introduce children to the rich resources available at Canterbury-Bankstown Libraries.
- Library visits: 45-minute sessions introducing students to library resources and the CBCA 2026 Book of the Year shortlist.
- School visits: Presentations aimed at Kindergarten to Year 2 students showcasing library collections and programs.
- Scavenger hunt: From 17 August to 4 September, find ten hidden book covers in local libraries and win prizes.
- Bookmark design competition: Open to children aged 2-17, entries accepted from 17 August to 4 September with winners announced on 7 September.
Events take place across nine Canterbury-Bankstown Library branches, accessible to residents and school communities within the local government area. Visit your nearest library or school for participation, with details and branch hours available online.
Participation in library and school visits requires booking via email or phone. The bookmark competition has specific entry conditions including age limits and theme adherence. Winners will be contacted through their schools. All activities comply with local council guidelines and respect cultural heritage.
Most events are free of charge. To book library or school visits, contact LibraryCY@cbcity.nsw.gov.au or call 9707 9731. Bookmark competition entries must be submitted by 5pm on 4 September 2026. Prizes include book packs for winning entries.
