What to Expect

These workshops offer a hands-on experience with essential tools like the writing brush, ink, rice paper, and ink slab. Each session focuses on mastering proper brush handling techniques and practicing basic strokes, including horizontal lines, vertical lines, and circles. You will also learn to write Chinese pictograms and small seal script, enriching your understanding of this beautiful writing style.
The workshops are designed to be engaging and educational, providing a creative outlet that connects participants with Chinese heritage and artistic expression.
Activity Details
The program runs monthly on the first Saturday from 10:30 to 12:00, starting on February 7, 2026, and continuing through March 7, 2026, with additional sessions on April 18 (rescheduled) and May 2, 2026. You only need to register once to attend all sessions.
Each workshop explores different themes:
- Workshop 1: tree, woods, forest (drawing: woods)
- Workshop 2: stone, hill, mountain (drawing: rock/hills)
- Workshop 3: rice, grain, fruit (drawing: fruits)
- Workshop 4: branch of tree, bamboo, pen (drawing: bamboo)
Participants must bring their own calligraphy brushes. Bookings are essential and cost $15 for the full program.

Important Information
Library membership is required to attend but is free and can be obtained online or at any branch. Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure the session starts on time, as latecomers cannot be admitted.

Refunds are available for cancellations made at least one day before the event, minus Eventbrite fees. Tickets are non-transferable, and participants must cancel if unable to attend to allow others to join.
