Citizenship ceremonies in the City of Bayswater offer a meaningful and memorable way to mark your official acceptance as an Australian citizen. These ceremonies are held throughout the year for residents approved by the Department of Home Affairs, providing a formal and celebratory occasion for new citizens and their families.
At the ceremony, you will make the pledge of commitment to Australia and receive your citizenship certificate. Children under 16 who are granted residency will receive a certificate but are not required to take the pledge. The event typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes and is attended by the Mayor or Deputy Mayor, elected members, and local dignitaries. You are welcome to bring one guest to share this special moment.
- Bring photo identification such as an Australian or international passport, travel document, or Western Australia driver’s licence.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before the ceremony start time.
- Dress code is formal or smart casual; national or cultural dress is also warmly welcomed.
- Photography is permitted during the ceremony.
- No refreshments are served, but new citizens receive a small gift to take home.
All ceremonies are held indoors at the City of Bayswater Civic Centre, located at 61 Broun Avenue, Morley WA 6062. The venue is wheelchair accessible with a lift and amenities on the ground floor to ensure comfort for all attendees.
If you cannot attend on your scheduled date, contact the City's Events Team promptly. For urgent ceremony requests, you must liaise directly with the Department of Home Affairs. It is compulsory for eligible Australian citizens to enrol and vote in elections; information on enrolment is provided at the ceremony. If there are any errors on your certificate, please notify event staff before leaving.
Attendance is by invitation only following approval of your citizenship application by the Department of Home Affairs. There is no cost to attend the ceremony. For queries or to RSVP, contact the City’s Events Team via phone or email as provided.
