Celebrate one of the most important days of your life with Darebin's citizenship ceremonies. These events honor new citizens with a warm Welcome to Country and meaningful cultural acknowledgments. Each ceremony includes official speeches, the pledge of commitment, and the presentation of your Certificate of Australian Citizenship.
Enjoy a respectful and inclusive atmosphere where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are honored through traditional Welcome to Country performances and personal stories. After the ceremony, optional refreshments and photo opportunities allow you to commemorate this special milestone.
This is the final step in becoming an Australian citizen, marking your official welcome into the community.
- Registration opens 45–60 minutes before the ceremony.
- Ceremonies typically last 30–70 minutes depending on attendance.
- The ceremony includes a Welcome to Country, speeches, pledge of commitment, and the National Anthem.
- You will receive your Certificate of Australian Citizenship during the event.
Please bring your invitation letter from the Department of Home Affairs and appropriate identification. Children under 16 do not require photo ID. Dress smart casual or wear clothing celebrating your culture.
The ceremonies are held within Darebin City Council venues, located at 274 Gower Street, Preston, VIC 3072. The venues are accessible and welcoming to all attendees. Parking and public transport options are available nearby.
- Invitations and ceremony dates are managed by the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.
- Only one guest per candidate is permitted due to venue capacity; children and dependants do not count as guests.
- If you are unwell, please inform the Department of Home Affairs to reschedule.
- Citizenship ceremonies do not take place on January 26 in recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.
Attendance is by invitation only, coordinated through the Department of Home Affairs. There is no cost to attend the ceremony. For enquiries about citizenship applications or ceremony invitations, contact the Department of Home Affairs directly.
