What to Expect
Experience a rewarding morning outdoors helping to maintain the beautiful Point Cook Homestead grounds and nearby wetlands. This community event offers a chance to connect with nature while contributing to local conservation efforts. Children especially enjoy exploring the grounds and the nearby beach walk, making it a perfect family-friendly outing.
Activities include gardening tasks such as weeding, mulching, pruning, sweeping, and tidying the external areas. You'll also assist Park Victoria Rangers in caring for the natural environment, including noxious weed control and planting native species.
Most attendees find the friendly company and shared purpose a great reason to return regularly. An optional morning tea is available at the end of the session to relax and socialize.
Activity Details
The event runs from 9:00 to 11:00 on the third Sunday of each month, with upcoming dates on 15 March, 19 April, 17 May, 21 June, and 19 July 2026. All ages and abilities are welcome, making it an inclusive community activity.
Volunteers will work alongside Park Victoria Rangers and local students who have participated in previous planting events. The focus is on enhancing the aesthetics and ecological health of the Point Cook Coastal Park.
This is a free event, and no prior experience is necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved in caring for this special place.
Location and Access
Meet onsite at the Historic Point Cook Homestead located at Point Cook Coastal Park, 1 Homestead Entrance Road, Point Cook, 3030. The site is accessible by car with parking available nearby.
The area includes the Wetlands Walk, a natural space showcasing indigenous plants and wildlife, perfect for families to explore after volunteering.
Public transport options may be limited, so planning your trip by car or carpooling is recommended. The homestead grounds provide a safe and welcoming environment for children and adults alike.
Important Information
Please wear comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for gardening and bring gloves if you have them. Sunscreen and a hat are advisable as the work is outdoors.
Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. The activities are low impact but do involve some physical work, so participants should be prepared for light gardening tasks.
The event is weather dependent; in case of severe weather, updates will be provided by the organiser.
Booking and Prices
This is a free community event with no booking required. Participants can simply arrive at the meeting point by 9:00 am on the scheduled dates.
An optional morning tea is provided at the conclusion of the session, offering a chance to meet fellow volunteers and share stories.
