Confined 17 offers a unique and moving opportunity to engage with the stories, culture, and lived experiences of First Nations people affected by incarceration in Victoria. This exhibition highlights the urgent need for justice reform through the powerful medium of visual arts.
Visitors will experience a collection of artworks created by participants in The Torch’s Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program. Each piece reflects personal journeys and cultural connections, providing insight into the disproportionate representation of First Nations Australians in the criminal justice system. The exhibition is not only a showcase of talent but a platform for healing and empowerment.
The event takes place on Sunday, 14 June 2026, from 13:00 to 17:00 at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery. Attendees can expect to see a diverse range of artworks, including acrylic paintings and other visual media. One hundred percent of the proceeds from artwork sales go directly to the artists, supporting their wellbeing and future pathways.
The exhibition is held at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery, located at the corner of Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads, Caulfield. The venue is accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming space for families and community members to explore and reflect on the artworks.
This event is suitable for adults and older children interested in cultural and social justice themes. It is an opportunity to support Indigenous artists and learn about the impact of incarceration on First Nations communities. Visitors are encouraged to respect the sensitive nature of the artworks and the stories they represent.
Entry to the exhibition is free. Artworks are available for purchase, with all sales directly benefiting the artists. No prior booking is required, making it easy for families to drop in and experience this important cultural event.
