offers a powerful and moving exhibition dedicated to First Nations people who have experienced incarceration in Victoria. This event provides a unique opportunity to engage with deeply personal stories and cultural expressions through visual art, highlighting important social issues and the resilience of Indigenous communities.
Visitors will experience a diverse collection of artworks that reflect the lived experiences and cultural heritage of First Nations artists. The exhibition serves as a platform to raise awareness about the disproportionate representation of Indigenous Australians in the criminal justice system, fostering empathy and understanding.
You can expect to see a variety of artistic styles and mediums, with each piece carrying a strong narrative and emotional impact. The event is suitable for parents and school-aged children interested in cultural education and social justice.
The exhibition runs for one day on Monday, 18 May 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00. It is hosted by The Torch’s Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program, which supports participants in improving their wellbeing through cultural connection and creativity.
All artwork sales benefit the artists directly, with 100% of the purchase price going to them. This supports the artists’ empowerment and helps create new pathways beyond the criminal justice system.
