Confined 17 offers a powerful and moving exhibition dedicated to First Nations people who have experienced incarceration in Victoria. Through their artworks, participants share their stories, culture, and lived experiences, providing a unique insight into the challenges faced by Indigenous Australians within the criminal justice system.
Visitors will engage with a collection of visual artworks that reflect the disproportionate representation of First Nations Australians in incarceration. The exhibition highlights the importance of cultural connection and healing, with each piece created through The Torch’s Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program. This program supports participants in improving their wellbeing and finding new pathways beyond the justice system.
The exhibition runs for one day, providing a focused opportunity to experience these compelling artworks. One hundred percent of the sales from the artworks go directly to the artists, supporting their ongoing creative and personal journeys. The event is family-friendly and suitable for adults interested in social justice, culture, and art.
Confined 17 is held at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery, located at the corner of Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads in Caulfield. The gallery is accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming environment for visitors. Parking and additional visitor information can be found on the Glen Eira City Council website.
The exhibition is a one-day event on Friday, 29 May 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to respect the cultural significance of the artworks and the stories shared. The event supports Indigenous artists and promotes awareness of critical social issues.
Entry to the exhibition is free. Artworks are available for purchase, with all proceeds going directly to the artists. No prior booking is required, but visitors are advised to check the Glen Eira City Council website for any updates or additional events related to the exhibition.
