Confined 17 offers a unique and moving experience where First Nations people who have experienced incarceration in Victoria share their stories, culture, and lived experiences through compelling artworks. This exhibition highlights the urgent need for change in the criminal justice system by reflecting on the disproportionate representation of Indigenous Australians.
Visitors will engage with a diverse collection of visual art created by participants in The Torch’s Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program. The artworks serve as a bridge to cultural connection and healing, fostering understanding and empathy. You can expect to be moved by the powerful narratives and creative expressions on display.
The exhibition runs for one day only, on Sunday, 3 May 2026, from 13:00 to 17:00. It is held at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery, located at the corner of Glen Eira and Hawthorn Roads in Caulfield. The event is family-friendly and suitable for anyone interested in art, culture, and social justice.
The Glen Eira City Council Gallery is easily accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming environment for visitors. The venue is situated in Caulfield, Victoria, with clear signage to guide attendees. Parking and accessibility information can be obtained by contacting the council.
All proceeds from artwork sales go directly to the artists, supporting their wellbeing and empowerment. The exhibition is part of an ongoing commitment to reduce re-offending rates through cultural engagement. Attendees are encouraged to respect the stories and experiences shared through the artworks.
Entry to the exhibition is free of charge. No prior booking is required, allowing visitors to drop in during the event hours. For more information, contact Glen Eira City Council via email or phone.
