What to Expect
Experience a warm and welcoming environment designed especially for people living with dementia and their families, friends, and carers. This program invites you to explore art in a relaxed setting that encourages discovery and creativity.
Each session features a small group discussion focusing on one or two works of art from the gallery, followed by a hands-on artmaking activity in the studio. The pace is gentle and supportive, ensuring everyone can participate without prior art experience.
These sessions are facilitated by trained NGV Educators who provide guidance and encouragement throughout the two-hour program.
Activity Details
The program runs monthly, with each session highlighting different artworks and creative techniques. Sessions last for two hours, typically from 11:00 to 13:00.
No previous art knowledge is needed, making it accessible and enjoyable for all participants. You can attend a single session or join multiple to experience a variety of art and activities.
Booking is essential, with a fee of $20 per person plus a $5.50 booking charge. The NGV also offers tailored dementia-friendly programs for aged care services and community groups upon request.

The sessions take place at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, located at Federation Square, Melbourne. The meeting point is on the Ground Level.
The venue is fully accessible and designed to accommodate the needs of people living with dementia, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive experience.
