This two-part online PhotoVoice workshop introduces parents to a gentle, family-friendly way to help children with developmental concerns share their world through photography. It is designed for busy parents who want practical tools to boost their child’s confidence, support communication, and influence inclusive community spaces.
What to Expect
You’ll learn how PhotoVoice uses photography to help children express likes, dislikes and experiences when words can be hard to access. The session is warm, practical and focused on simple activities you can do together at home or in the local community.
Expect short demonstrations, parent-focused guidance and time to ask questions about taking photographs that represent your child’s voice. The approach supports engagement, inclusion and accessibility and highlights how images can inform libraries, parks and local businesses.
The workshop is interactive but parent-only, so you can absorb the techniques and then practise with your child afterwards. SEO keywords: PhotoVoice, photography, child voice, inclusive communities, accessibility, online workshop.
Activity Details
Session 1 covers the basics: what PhotoVoice is, how to encourage your child to take photos and ideas for simple, safe photo activities. The facilitators explain how to frame photos, suggest prompts, and offer tips for different ages and abilities.
Session 2 is a follow-up for parents who want to discuss experiences, ask more detailed questions and learn how to upload images to inform community organisations. Attend both sessions to be eligible for the free small digital camera offer for Australian families.
This workshop is suitable for parents, carers and family members of children aged 0–12 years who have developmental concerns, delay or disability. Sessions are delivered online and are recorded for internal supervision only.
Location and Access
The event is delivered online via Zoom so you can join from anywhere in Australia; this makes it easy for families across states and territories to participate. Instructions and the Zoom link will be emailed to registrants closer to the session date.
A stable internet connection, a device with a camera (phone, tablet or laptop) and a quiet spot for the session will help you get the most out of the workshop. If you need accessibility support, you are invited to indicate this when registering.
Recordings are kept for internal supervision and are not shared outside the organisation; live attendance is encouraged for the chance to ask questions and get personalised tips for your child.
Important Information
The sessions are interactive and designed for parents only; children do not attend the live sessions so parents can focus on learning strategies to use afterwards. Professionals are not accommodated in these sessions, though you are welcome to share details with families you support.
Minimum RSVPs apply and sessions may be cancelled for low registration numbers, so please confirm early. Privacy is respected: registration information will not be shared outside the organisation and personal details remain confidential.
Families who attend both sessions and meet eligibility (Australia-based) can receive a free small digital camera to continue PhotoVoice activities at home. Please note the free camera offer is subject to availability.
Booking and Prices
These workshops are free to attend, funded through the NSW Department of Education Start Strong Pathways program. Booking is via RSVP and one ticket is required per family.
Spaces are limited; a minimum of four RSVPs is required for the session to proceed, and your confirmation is required to secure a place. After registering you will receive login details and any further instructions by email.
If you have questions, contact the program team when registering to request accessibility support or further information about the PhotoVoice project, the camera offer, or session recordings.
