Coogee Lanterns Workshops and Parade June 2025

Celebrate the magic of the winter solstice by participating in a hands-on lantern-making workshop designed for families and children aged 5 and up. This event offers a wonderful opportunity to craft your own paper and bamboo lantern, culminating in a vibrant community lantern parade at Coogee Beach on the evening of the solstice.

What to Expect

Embrace the beauty of the season with creative workshops held over two weekends. You will learn step-by-step how to make your lantern with all materials provided. The workshops are suitable for beginners and children, with adult supervision required for those under 16. The event ends with a stunning lantern parade at sunset, symbolizing warmth and light during the longest night of the year.

Activity Details

Workshops run on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 6 to 15 June 2025, with morning and afternoon sessions available. Each participant only needs to attend one session to complete their lantern. The grand lantern parade will take place on Saturday 21 June 2025 at Coogee Beach, celebrating community spirit and the return of light.

Location and Access

The workshops are held at Randwick Town Hall, 90 Avoca St, Randwick NSW 2031. The lantern parade will be at Coogee Beach Rainbow. Both locations are accessible by public transport and have parking nearby. Families are encouraged to arrive early for the parade to enjoy the full experience.

Important Information

Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. No prior experience is needed to participate. The event celebrates the winter solstice, marking the shortest day and longest night of the year, making it a meaningful time for reflection and community connection.
