Dive into a unique cultural experience designed especially for children aged 4-9. This hands-on LEGO workshop invites young minds to explore the Noongar season of Makuru, a time of rain and renewal, through storytelling and creative building.
Children will engage with the environment and culture by piecing together their interpretations of Country during Makuru using LEGO bricks. It’s a fun and educational way to connect with Indigenous culture and the natural world.
Perfect for a cold Makuru day, this workshop promises to be a memorable and 'deadly' activity that encourages creativity and cultural appreciation.
The workshop runs for one hour, from 13:30 to 14:30 on Monday, 6th July 2026. It is designed for children aged 4 to 9 years, who must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants will yarn about the significance of Boodja/Country during Makuru before building their own LEGO landscapes inspired by what they learn and feel.
Bookings are essential as spaces are limited, and the event is free of charge, making it accessible for all families interested in cultural learning and creative play.
The event takes place in Meeting Room 1 at the Bassendean Memorial Library, located at 46 Old Perth Rd, Bassendean.
The library is a welcoming community space that is easy to access and provides a comfortable environment for children and their carers to engage in the workshop.
Families are encouraged to arrive a little early to settle in and make the most of this enriching cultural activity.
This workshop celebrates NAIDOC Week and focuses on Indigenous culture and environmental themes relevant to the Noongar people.
Children must be accompanied by an adult to ensure a safe and supportive experience.
If you are unable to attend after booking, please contact the library to free up your spot for another child.
The event is designed to be inclusive and educational, fostering respect and understanding of Indigenous seasons and stories.
Attendance is free, but booking is essential to secure a place.
Bookings can be made online through the Bassendean Memorial Library’s website or by contacting the library directly.
This is a great opportunity to engage your children in a meaningful cultural activity without any cost, so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
