What to Expect
Experience a warm and inviting art studio designed especially for people living with dementia, their families, friends, and carers. This drop-in session encourages creativity in a relaxed and supportive environment where no prior art skills are needed. Enjoy the chance to connect with others while exploring a variety of art materials at your own pace.
The session is guided by trained NGV Educators who provide assistance and inspiration throughout the morning. It’s a wonderful opportunity to engage in meaningful creative activities during Dementia Action Week 2026.
Whether you want to chat, create, or simply enjoy the atmosphere, this open studio welcomes everyone affected by dementia.
Activity Details
The event runs on Thursday, 24 September 2026, from 10:30 to 12:30. It is free to attend and no booking is required, making it easy to drop in at your convenience. If you plan to attend with a group larger than five people, the organisers appreciate advance notice to prepare adequately.
This session is part of NGV’s dementia-friendly initiatives, which also include tailored programs for aged care services and community groups, available by request with applicable fees.
Participants will have access to a variety of art materials and supportive guidance to encourage creative expression and social connection.
Location and Access
The event takes place at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, located in Federation Square, Melbourne. The session is held in the Learn Studios on Level 1, Mezzanine.
