Immerse yourself in nature and make a real difference by volunteering at Dunningham Reserve Bushcare. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to engage with the local environment and learn about coastal ecosystems. You and your children will enjoy hands-on activities that contribute to preserving native plants and wildlife.
Expect to work alongside Council's experienced Bushcare Officers who will guide you through the process of removing invasive vines and woody weeds. This is a rewarding way to spend a morning outdoors, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery.
Volunteers will also help with supplement planting to extend the indigenous plant cover, enhancing the biodiversity of this species-rich coastal heath ecosystem.
The bushcare sessions take place every month on the 4th Thursday, running from 09:00 to 11:00. The program is ongoing until 26 November 2026, providing plenty of chances to get involved throughout the year.
Activities include:
- Primary removal of invasive vine and woody weed infestations
- Supplement planting of native species
- Learning about local flora and fauna
Suitable for parents and children who enjoy outdoor activities and want to contribute to environmental conservation.
The sessions are held adjacent to 5-7 Major Street, Coogee, at Dunningham Reserve. This location is easily accessible by public transport and offers a peaceful natural setting perfect for family participation.
Parking is available nearby, and volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and bring water, sun protection, and gloves if possible.
Please note that bookings are required to participate. Contact the Bushcare Officer to secure your spot and receive any updates regarding the sessions.
Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor work in all weather conditions and wear appropriate clothing. Children must be supervised by their parents or guardians at all times.
This program is a wonderful way to teach kids about environmental stewardship and the importance of native plants in our local ecosystem.
