What to Expect
Immerse yourself in a rich learning experience designed specifically for teachers eager to bring First Nations art and culture into their classrooms. This full-day event features inspiring presentations from acclaimed artists and curators, offering fresh perspectives on Indigenous art practices.
You will hear from Wadawurrung artist Kait James, who uses humour and pop culture in her unique embroidery work, and Dr Jessica Clark, Senior Curator of First Nations Art at NGV, who will guide you through key artworks. Additionally, Tiriki Onus, an artist and academic, will share personal cultural insights.
The day includes interactive gallery sessions led by NGV Educators, focusing on respectful and culturally sensitive teaching approaches with First Nations artworks.
Activity Details
This professional learning day runs from 9:30am to 4:00pm and is tailored to help educators develop confidence in exploring First Nations art, culture, and history. You will learn to connect your students’ experiences with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander themes and concepts.
The program supports AITSL standards, emphasizing respectful knowledge and teaching strategies related to Indigenous histories and cultures. It is a valuable opportunity to update your professional skills while engaging with contemporary and historic Indigenous art.
