This club offers a monthly newsletter and free online streaming access to select films that highlight First Peoples' stories on screen. It’s a welcoming space to explore moving image works from around the world, focusing on seminal works that have paved the way for Indigenous storytelling.
The club also hosts curated in-person events designed to deepen cinematic knowledge and foster new connections within the community. Whether you are a film enthusiast or simply curious, this club provides a meaningful way to engage with Indigenous screen culture.
The First Nations Film Club is an ongoing initiative with no fixed start or end dates, providing continuous access to films and events. It is exclusively open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who can register via a provided form to join the community. The club emphasizes a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, guided by a strict code of conduct.
Participants can expect monthly newsletters, online streaming opportunities, and occasional in-person events at ACMI. The club also offers a Blak Membership with exclusive benefits such as free tickets to exhibitions and member-only screenings.
Events and in-person meetings take place at ACMI, located in Federation Square, Melbourne/Naarm. ACMI is easily accessible and open daily from 10am to 5pm. The First Nations Film Club also operates online, allowing members to stream films from anywhere.
Please note that the club is exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, ensuring a culturally safe space for members to connect and celebrate their stories.
All participants must agree to ACMI’s code of conduct, which promotes a harassment-free environment for everyone regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, or race. Harassment in any form is not tolerated, and breaches may result in expulsion without refund.
The club encourages respectful discussion and presentation of sensitive topics related to Indigenous experiences, with clear guidelines to maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere.

Membership and participation in the First Nations Film Club are free. Interested Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals can register online to gain access to the monthly newsletter and streaming services. The Blak Membership offers additional perks, including free exhibition tickets and discounts, enhancing the experience at ACMI.
