What to Expect
Step back in time with a leisurely guided walk led by volunteer Chris, discovering Bassendean’s rich architectural history. You’ll visit notable homes from the Federation to Post War International styles, including the first school built in Bassendean and unique properties like the 1980s 'folly' on North Road.
This walk offers a fascinating glimpse into the local heritage, perfect for families wanting to engage children with history in an active, outdoor setting. Expect a relaxed pace suitable for all ages, with plenty of stories and insights.
Enjoy the fresh air and community spirit as you stroll through the Devon Road Precinct and admire the stately homes that tell the story of Bassendean’s past.
Activity Details
The walk takes place on Wednesday 15th July 2026 from 10:00 to 12:00. It starts outside the Bassendean Primary School carpark on West Road. The event is free but requires booking to secure your spot.
Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and SunSmart clothing, and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Sunscreen will be provided on the day.
Please note there are no toilet facilities available during the walk, so plan accordingly. It’s recommended to eat a good meal beforehand to keep your energy up for the two-hour stroll.
Location and Access
Meet at Bassendean Primary School, located at 70 West Rd, Bassendean WA 6054. The meeting point is on the footpath near the school carpark.
The walk covers the nearby Devon Road Precinct and surrounding historic homes, easily accessible by foot from the meeting point.
Bassendean is well connected by local transport, and parking is available near the school. The route is suitable for families and school-aged children.
Important Information
This event is free but bookings are essential to manage group size and ensure a quality experience. If you cannot attend after booking, please notify the library to allow others to participate.
Wear appropriate clothing for walking outdoors and weather conditions. Sunscreen will be provided, but bringing your own water bottle is advised.
The walk lasts approximately two hours and involves outdoor walking on footpaths; please consider mobility needs when booking.
