Step into a visually striking and interactive VR dance experience where technology meets human connection. Free UR Head invites you to wear a VR headset and become part of a spontaneous, unrehearsed movement shared with strangers. This unique event blends real-time XR technology with music and visual cues to create a living sculpture of synchronized motion.
No prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and openness to connect. Outside the headset, witness a dynamic performance unfolding in the room, visible to all attendees and passersby alike. This is more than a VR show; it’s a playful, social experiment that transforms technology into a shared artistic experience.
Created by award-winning Taiwanese director Chou Tung-Yen, whose work has been featured twice at the Venice Film Festival, Free UR Head explores new ways of seeing and feeling through immersive media.
Participants will be seated together and provided with VR headsets for the session. Guided by music and visual prompts, subtle synchronized movements emerge naturally among the group. The experience is designed to be accessible and welcoming to everyone, regardless of background or familiarity with VR.
The event is family friendly and wheelchair accessible, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive environment. While a ticket grants access to the VR experience, the general public can also attend the venue to observe the live movement sculpture without a ticket.
This event is part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival and presented in partnership with ACMI, supported by cultural organizations from Taiwan.
The event takes place at ACMI Urban Lounge, located within the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne. The venue is easily accessible by public transport and offers wheelchair access.
