During the tour, you will explore the Observatory grounds, including Fort Phillip and the Signal Station, and step inside the building to see historic objects from the Powerhouse Collection. Climb narrow staircases to reach the domes and view the city and harbour through historic and modern telescopes.
The experience offers spectacular views across Sydney Harbour and a chance to observe terrestrial objects through telescopes, making it an engaging outing for parents and school-aged children alike.
Tours run every Wednesday to Sunday with a duration of approximately one hour. The cost ranges from $24 for children aged 12–16 and concession tickets at $32, to $36 for standard adult tickets.
Please note that viewing astronomical objects depends on weather conditions such as cloud cover and time of day. In case of wet weather, tours may be cancelled with refunds issued and notifications sent via email four hours prior.
Groups with younger children are encouraged to book the Family Tours designed for ages 6 and up. Private group and student bookings are available through the contact centre.
The tours take place at Sydney Observatory, located at 1003 Upper Fort St, Millers Point NSW 2000, on Gadigal Land. The site includes more than a hundred stairs and some areas may be inaccessible to less mobile visitors or wheelchair users.
For accessibility inquiries, visitors are advised to contact the centre directly. Companion card holders can book tickets via the contact centre.
Tours include climbing narrow staircases and are not fully accessible to all mobility levels. Weather conditions may affect the viewing experience and tour operation.
Guests will receive cancellation notifications via email at least four hours before the tour if necessary. Private group tours require advance booking through the contact centre.
Visitors should prepare for an engaging, moderately active experience and plan accordingly for weather and mobility needs.
Tickets cost $24 for children aged 12–16, $32 for concession, and $36 for standard adult entry. Family tours for younger children are available separately.
