Dive into a vibrant week of creativity designed especially for young people aged 14 to 20. This free program invites participants to explore music creation alongside visual and digital art, all within a supportive and welcoming environment. Whether you're a budding musician or just curious to try, this is your chance to work with experienced artists and discover new skills.
Expect to engage in songwriting, beat-making, DJ-ing, recording, music production, and performance. Alongside music, you'll develop album covers, logos, merchandise concepts, branding, and promotional designs, blending art and music seamlessly.
The program culminates in an optional public showcase, offering a unique opportunity to share your original work with family, friends, and the wider community.
This intensive runs for five days during the school holidays, from Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October 2026, daily from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. No prior experience is needed, making it perfect for beginners and those with some creative background.
Heaps Decent artists, who have nearly 20 years of experience empowering youth through music, will mentor participants. All facilitators hold Working With Children Checks and are skilled in supporting diverse young people.
Registration is essential due to limited places, and expressions of interest are submitted via an online survey. The program is free, removing financial barriers to participation.
The Youth Creative Lab takes place at Randwick Town Hall, located at 90 Avoca Street, Randwick. This central location is accessible by public transport and offers a safe, creative space for young people to gather and collaborate.
Families can easily drop off and pick up participants during the scheduled hours. The venue is part of Randwick City Council's Town Hall Takeover initiative, transforming the space into a dynamic hub for youth creativity.
Participants should be aged between 14 and 20 years old. If you fall outside this range but are interested, you can contact the organizers directly to discuss possibilities.
All activities are designed to be inclusive and supportive, with facilitators experienced in trauma-informed approaches and youth engagement.
The program includes an optional community showcase on Saturday 3 October, providing a platform to celebrate the creative achievements of participants.
