This summer, embark on an exciting augmented reality journey with your children at Hide and Go Creek. Kids will have a blast searching for Craig, a cheeky freshwater spiny crayfish, hidden behind QR codes at five creek locations. Scanning the codes brings Craig to life, offering interactive fun and education about protecting local waterways.
Each creek location offers a unique badge to earn, encouraging kids to explore nature and learn environmental stewardship in a playful way. The activity is designed to engage children while promoting awareness of creek conservation.
Perfect for families looking for an outdoor adventure that combines technology, nature, and learning, Hide and Go Creek is accessible at various times and locations throughout Hornsby Shire.
Participants will visit five creek sites to find Craig and collect badges:
- Leaf League Badge at Ginger Meggs, Hornsby
- Grass Guardian Badge at Pyes Creek Swing Bridge, Cherrybrook
- Wash Warrior Badge at Florence Cotton Walk, Hornsby
- Poo Patrol Badge at Erlestoke Park Bushlands Walk, Cherrybrook
- Rubbish Ranger Badge at Carrs Bush Discovery Boardwalk, Fagan Park, Galston
Collect all five badges to become a Crazy Creek Protector! The activity is free and suitable for school-aged children accompanied by parents.
Hours vary by location, with some sites open 24/7 and others having specific opening times. The experience is weather dependent, with rescheduling advised during heavy rain due to creek flooding risks.
The event takes place at multiple creek locations across Hornsby Shire, including Hornsby, Cherrybrook, and Galston. Specific sites are:
- Ginger Meggs, Hornsby
- Pyes Creek Swing Bridge, Cherrybrook
- Florence Cotton Walk, Hornsby
- Erlestoke Park Bushlands Walk, Cherrybrook
- Carrs Bush Discovery Boardwalk, Fagan Park, Galston
Most locations are easily accessible and family-friendly. Florence Cotton Walk has weekday and weekend opening hours, while others are open all day. Parking and public transport options are available nearby.
Please note that the Florence Cotton Walk location is closed on public holidays and during adverse weather conditions. All creek sites can be prone to flooding, so safety precautions should be observed.
The activity is suitable for children of school age and requires parental supervision. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and bring water and sun protection.
Sharing your videos and photos with Craig on social media using #HideAndGoCreek is encouraged to celebrate your adventure and inspire others.
Hide and Go Creek is completely free to participate in. There is no need to book in advance; families can visit any of the locations during the specified hours.
