What to Expect
Discover a hands-on makerspace experience designed especially for home-school families with teenagers aged 12 to 16. This engaging session encourages creativity and practical learning through digital fabrication, robotics, and electronics. Teens and their parents or guardians will explore beginner-friendly 3D design software and bring their ideas to life using 3D printers.
Expect a supportive environment where experienced facilitators guide you through exciting projects, fostering peer learning and exploration. Whether you’re new to making or have your own project ideas, this workshop offers a perfect blend of technology and creativity.
This session is ideal for parents looking to support their teen’s learning journey with fun, interactive activities that build foundational maker skills.
Activity Details
The 2-hour workshop covers core digital fabrication skills including CAD (3D design), file preparation, and 3D printing using the Bambu X1 printer. Participants will learn to use free software like Tinkercad and Onshape to create simple designs.
Additional maker activities include electronics, physical computing, and hands-on creativity with tools such as laser cutters and robotics kits like Makey Makey, Ozobot, and Sphero. All materials and devices, including laptops and iPads, are provided.
Each participant can print up to 30 minutes on the 3D printer and create laser cut projects limited to 10cm x 10cm materials. A USB drive is required to save work.
Location and Access
The event takes place at Darling Square Library, Levels 1 and 2, The Exchange, 1 Little Pier Street, Haymarket NSW 2000, in the Level 1 Makerspace. The venue is accessible and welcoming to families.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay and engage in the activities alongside their teens. If not staying in the makerspace, adults must remain in the library during the session.

This workshop is suitable for children aged 12 to 16 years and their parents or guardians. No prior making experience is required, making it perfect for beginners.
Bookings are essential with a maximum of 10 teenagers per session to ensure quality guidance. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days before the event for a refund.

Booking and Prices
The cost is $10 per child, with accompanying adults attending for free. Bookings can be made online through the City of Sydney website.
