Homies Homework Club is a supportive and engaging program designed to help primary school children improve their educational outcomes. Each child receives one-on-one tutoring and mentoring focused on reading, writing, and maths. The club fosters a positive social environment where students can feel encouraged and motivated.
The sessions are held weekly on Thursday evenings during the school term, providing consistent support to help children build confidence and skills. Volunteers act as role models, creating meaningful connections with the students they assist.
This program is ideal for parents seeking extra academic help for their children in a friendly and nurturing setting.
- Runs every Thursday evening from 18:00 to 19:30
- Located at Emerald Hill Library, South Melbourne
- Available during school terms only; no sessions during school holidays
- Focus on primary school aged children needing homework help
- One-on-one tutoring and mentoring approach
The Homies Homework Club takes place at Emerald Hill Library, located in South Melbourne. The library is accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming environment for families. Parking options are available nearby.
Parents can drop off and pick up their children at the library during the session times. The venue is equipped with resources to support learning and quiet study.
Please note that there is currently a waiting list for new students wishing to join the club. However, the program is actively seeking volunteers to help run this valuable initiative.
Volunteers need to be confident in assisting children with homework, especially in reading, writing, and maths, and must be available Thursday evenings during school terms. Police and Working with Children Checks are required, and the library assists volunteers in obtaining these.
Sessions do not run during school holidays, so plan accordingly.
Participation in Homies Homework Club is free of charge. To join the waiting list or to volunteer, parents and interested individuals should contact the Emerald Hill Branch Manager.
Contact can be made via email to homies@portphillip.vic.gov.au. Early application is recommended due to the waiting list.
This is a wonderful opportunity to support your child's learning journey at no cost.
