Our Household Chemical CleanOut is a fantastic chance to safely dispose of leftover household chemicals from your home, shed, or garage. This event helps prevent harmful substances from polluting Sydney Harbour and protects precious marine life.
You’ll be guided to stay in your vehicle while our team unloads your items quickly and safely. If you’re walking or cycling, a separate drop-off area is available for your convenience.
Bring your chemicals sealed in tubs and in their original containers. If labels are missing, simply mark them as ‘unknown chemical’ to help our team handle them properly.
You can bring a wide range of household chemicals including paints, solvents, pesticides, cleaning products, motor oils, batteries, and more. Only household quantities are accepted, with container limits of 20kg or 20L per item, except paint which can be up to 100L in 20L containers.
Business or commercial quantities are not accepted. If you manage a building or have items from multiple households, please contact the organisers ahead of time.
This event is free and open to everyone, regardless of where you live. It’s a simple and responsible way to clear out hazardous chemicals safely.
The CleanOut takes place at Alexandra Canal Depot, 67C Bourke Road, Alexandria NSW 2017. The site is easily accessible by car, bike, or on foot.
If arriving by vehicle, stay inside while staff assist with unloading. Cyclists and pedestrians can use a designated drop-off zone to keep the process smooth and safe for all.
Directions and further access details are available on the City of Sydney website to help you plan your visit.
Please ensure all chemicals are sealed and contained in tubs to avoid exposure to fumes. Keep chemicals in their original containers where possible and do not mix substances.
Maximum container sizes apply: 20kg or 20L per item except paint, which can be up to 100L in 20L containers. Only household quantities are accepted; commercial amounts must be arranged separately.
For any questions about quantities or special circumstances, contact the City of Sydney council via email before the event.
This event is completely free to attend. No booking is required, and drop-ins are welcome during the event hours.
Simply bring your household chemicals on the day between 09:00 and 15:30 to safely dispose of them with expert assistance.
