Immerse yourself in a nurturing environment designed for writers at any career stage to develop their craft. This program offers a unique chance to share your work in progress and gain constructive feedback from fellow writers and mentors. Whether you're looking to refine your writing or build a supportive community, this program welcomes you.
The program includes two feedback workshops where participants learn how to give and receive respectful, constructive feedback. You will also have the option to present your work at a special evening event, showcasing your creativity to an engaged audience.
Expect to engage in meaningful discussions about your writing, explore new perspectives, and connect with like-minded creatives in Merri-bek. This is an excellent opportunity for parents seeking enriching activities that foster creativity and personal growth.
The program runs from Saturday 2 May 2026 to Saturday 30 May 2026 and includes:
- Workshop 1: Saturday 2 May 2026, 10:30-12:30 at Coburg Library
- Workshop 2: Saturday 9 May 2026, 10:30-12:30 at Coburg Library
- An Evening of One Page Wonders: Saturday 30 May 2026, 18:00-20:00 at Balam Balam Place, Brunswick
Participants may attend one feedback workshop and optionally read their work at the evening event. Workshops have a maximum of 15 participants to ensure a supportive atmosphere.
The workshops focus on developing skills for giving and receiving feedback, managing personal expectations, and discussing your creative writing confidently. The evening event allows writers to share a single page of new work with an audience, perfect for testing out new ideas.
Workshops are held at Coburg Library, a welcoming and accessible venue located in Merri-bek. The final event takes place at Balam Balam Place, 15 Phoenix St, Brunswick, a vibrant community space ideal for live readings.
Both venues are accessible by public transport and offer a friendly environment for families and individuals. Parking and amenities are available nearby to ensure a comfortable visit.
These locations provide a safe and inspiring setting for writers and their families to engage with the local arts community.
This program is open to writers living, working, or studying in Merri-bek, across all genres and career stages. It is ideal for those wanting to improve feedback skills, manage creative expectations, and build connections.
Applications for the workshops close at 23:59 on 24 April 2026. Participants must submit a piece of writing following the specified format to apply. Attendance at one workshop is required to participate fully.
The evening event is free and open to all, with priority given to program participants for reading slots. Audience members are warmly welcomed to support local writers.
The program is free of charge, making it accessible for all interested writers and families. Bookings are essential for workshops and the evening event to manage capacity and ensure a quality experience.
To apply for workshops, complete the Expression of Interest form online and attach your writing piece. For the evening event, email Writing Days with your reading submission.
