International Composting Awareness Week is a wonderful opportunity for families to engage with the environment and learn about the benefits of composting. Running from 4 to 10 May 2025, this event highlights the importance of repurposing food and garden waste to enrich soil and promote healthier communities.
During the week, you can expect a range of educational activities and competitions designed to inspire sustainable living. The theme, 'Sustainable Communities Begin with Compost,' encourages everyone, regardless of garden size, to participate in composting. There will be tips shared by local residents and prizes awarded for the best composting strategies.
- Dates: 4 May 2025 to 10 May 2025
- Free mulch loading available at Council waste facilities
- Locations for mulch loading: Bunya, Caboolture, and Dakabin
- Mulch loading times: 09:00 to 12:00 on 10 and 11 May 2025
- Composting tips competition with prizes including worm farms and compost bins
The free mulch loading activities take place at the City of Moreton Bay’s waste facilities located in Bunya, Caboolture, and Dakabin. These facilities are accessible by car, and parking is available on site. Families are encouraged to visit during the specified times to collect mulch and learn more about composting.
Participants should be aware that composting is a simple yet impactful way to reduce landfill waste and improve soil health. The competition winners have shared valuable tips such as chopping scraps smaller to speed up decomposition and avoiding meat or bones to control odours. These insights can help families start or improve their composting practices at home.
This event is free to attend, and no bookings are required for the mulch loading activities. Families can drop by during the specified times to collect free mulch and participate in the awareness week activities. For more information, visit the City of Moreton Bay website or contact the Council directly.
