Experience a vibrant cultural engagement session designed especially for young people aged 12 to 18. This welcoming event invites participants to connect with Nyoongar culture through creative and interactive activities that foster pride and understanding.
Over three hours, attendees can drop in at their convenience and explore a variety of hands-on stations that celebrate storytelling, art, music, and language. It’s a unique opportunity to learn about Country and culture in a relaxed, inclusive environment.
Whether your child loves art, music, or simply wants to connect with community, this event offers something meaningful for everyone.
The program features five interactive stations:
- Kaya and Country welcome space: Learn about Nyoongar Country, place, and connection.
- Nyoongar art and symbols station: Create personal art using Nyoongar symbols and storytelling.
- Hands-on cultural activity: Decorate tapping sticks or message sticks.
- Yarn and chill space: Engage in casual yarning facilitated by Milliyaan Aboriginal Services.
- Rhythm and language pop-up sessions: Short music and rhythm sessions introducing cultural expression.
Participants are encouraged to engage at their own pace and drop in anytime between 10:00 and 13:00.
The event takes place at John Tonkin Reserve, a welcoming outdoor space in East Fremantle. The reserve is accessible and family-friendly, providing a safe and comfortable environment for young people to explore culture and community.
Parking and public transport options are available nearby, making it easy for families to attend.
This is a free event with no registration required, encouraging spontaneous participation. It is part of the Town of East Fremantle’s 2026/27 community events program focused on inclusion and cultural celebration.
