What to Expect
This hands-on workshop will guide you through the process of building a game from scratch using Microsoft Makecode Arcade, a block-based coding platform. You'll learn fundamental coding concepts while designing your game's characters, levels, and gameplay mechanics. No prior coding experience is needed – just bring your creativity!
You'll have the opportunity to experiment with different game elements, add your own artistic flair, and bring your unique vision to life. Our experienced instructors will be there to support you every step of the way.
At the end of the program, your game will be loaded onto our mini arcade-game machine and displayed in the library for everyone to enjoy. Get ready to see your creation come to life and challenge your friends to beat your high score!
Activity Details
This program is designed for young people aged 12-18 years old. Sessions run monthly on the last Thursday of the month, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Bookings are essential as places are limited.
The workshop will cover various aspects of game development, including character design, level creation, coding game logic, and adding sound effects. You'll learn how to use code blocks to control game elements and create interactive experiences.
All necessary equipment and software will be provided. Just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!
Location and Access
The workshop will be held at the Lionel Bowen Library in Maroubra, located at 669-673 Anzac Parade. The library is easily accessible by public transport, with several bus routes stopping nearby.
There is limited street parking available in the surrounding area. Please allow extra time for parking if you are driving.
The library is wheelchair accessible, with ramps and accessible restrooms available.
Important Information
Bookings are required for each session and open approximately one month prior. You can book online through Eventbrite. This program is free for library members. If you're not a member, you can join online or at any Randwick City Library branch.
Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for check-in. Due to the nature of the workshop, latecomers may not be admitted after the session has started.
