Imagine designing your very own stunning scarf by selecting your favorite designs and colors in this engaging batik workshop. This award-winning session from Adelaide Fringe 2024/25 offers a unique opportunity to learn the traditional Indonesian art of batik, recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of human heritage. You'll be guided by Rehana, an experienced instructor who has presented this workshop at various councils, schools, and WEA.
Enjoy a beginner-friendly, three-hour session where you'll use brush painting and Tjanting tools to create beautiful resist art with hot beeswax. Alongside the creative process, Rehana shares fascinating stories from around the world and imparts her extensive knowledge of textiles.
This workshop is suitable for participants aged 15 and over, with all materials included. Relax, create, and even try some Pakistani street food available for a small donation.
This hands-on workshop runs for three hours, from 10:30 to 13:30, on March 14, 2026. Participants will learn the basics of batik art, including brush painting and wax-resist techniques. The session is designed for beginners and encourages creativity and experimentation.
Materials such as brushes, Tjanting tools, and hot beeswax are provided. Participants are advised to bring an apron, a large plastic bag, and reading glasses if needed. Casual clothing is recommended to accommodate potential stains.
There is an optional kit available for purchase at $40 cash, allowing you to continue your batik practice at home.
The workshop takes place at Nailsworth Community Hall, located at 31 D'Erlanger Ave, Collinswood SA 5081. The venue offers free parking on-site and street parking nearby, making it convenient for families driving to the event.

This workshop is suitable for individuals aged 15 years and older, making it ideal for parents and older children or teenagers interested in arts and crafts. The session is beginner-friendly, so no prior experience is necessary.
Please bring an apron and a large plastic bag to protect your clothing and carry your artwork home safely. Reading glasses are optional but recommended for detailed work.
Participants are encouraged to dress casually and be prepared for some mess, as batik involves working with hot wax and dyes.
Tickets are priced between $75 and $80, covering all materials needed for the workshop. The optional batik kit is available for an additional $40 cash purchase at the event.
