This engaging workshop invites participants to explore grief, illness, and life's challenges through creative writing. It offers a safe and supportive space for both emerging and established writers to transform difficult experiences into art.
You will learn techniques to distance yourself from pain, use humor, and experiment with creative forms to express your feelings effectively. The session encourages intentionality and connection with others navigating similar struggles.
Whether dealing with personal loss, climate anxiety, or life transitions like divorce or menopause, this workshop helps channel those emotions into meaningful writing.
The workshop runs for three hours, providing ample time for writing exercises, sharing, and reflection. It is designed for adults who want to deepen their writing practice while addressing tough topics.
Heather Taylor-Johnson, an acclaimed writer with numerous awards and residencies, leads the session. Her expertise in themes of illness, belonging, and art enriches the experience.
Participants should come prepared to engage thoughtfully and respectfully with the material and fellow attendees.
The event takes place at The Summit Community Centre, located at 4 Crescent Dr, Norton Summit SA 5136. The centre is accessible by car and offers a welcoming environment for community gatherings.
The centre operates Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 15:00 and is closed on Fridays and public holidays. For inquiries, contact the centre during opening hours.
Please note that in case of Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings for the Mt Lofty Ranges, the centre will close, and the event will be cancelled or rescheduled.
This workshop is part of the Winter Words 2026 program and costs $10 per participant. Tickets must be booked online in advance.
