Experience the joy of growing your own fresh produce with the March Sow & Grow event, designed especially for City of Melville residents. This casual drop-in session invites families and individuals of all ages to plant seasonal seeds and take them home to nurture. It’s a wonderful way to connect with nature, learn about sustainable gardening, and enjoy quality time outdoors.
Bring your own vessels to plant seeds in, and choose from varieties like broccoli, snow pea, fennel, and chives. The event encourages creativity by allowing you to reuse household items as seedling containers, making gardening accessible and fun for everyone.
While at the EcoHub, don’t miss the Piney Lakes Community Garden Open Garden tour and the opportunity to purchase FOGO compost to enrich your garden soil. Signing up for Grow It Local offers free growing guides and workshops to help you succeed in your gardening journey.
This is a drop-in style event running for two hours, from 09:00 to 11:00, allowing you to come and go at your convenience. It is family friendly and social, welcoming all ages with a relaxed atmosphere. Caregivers are responsible for their children’s safety, and guests should be mindful of their environment and each other.
You must be a City of Melville resident to participate, so please bring a current ID or rates notice showing your name and address. The event is outdoors on hard paths, making it accessible and easy to navigate.
The event takes place at the City of Melville EcoHub, located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop, within Piney Lakes Reserve. Accessible parking is available at the front of the EcoHub, and the venue features ramps and accessible toilets.
Public transport is encouraged, with a bus stop just a two-minute walk away servicing multiple routes. Directions from Murdoch Drive and Fremantle are clearly provided to help you find the EcoHub easily.
Please bring your own vessel for planting seeds—get creative by reusing items like old seedling trays, toilet rolls, egg cartons, paper bags, or clean containers such as butter tubs and yoghurt pots. This helps reduce waste and adds a personal touch to your gardening.
The event is free but exclusive to City of Melville residents. Remember to bring proof of residency. While the event is casual, safety is important, so caregivers must supervise children at all times.
For specific access needs or questions, contact the EcoHub via phone or email. Also, consider subscribing to the City of Melville Sustainability and Environment e-newsletter to stay updated on future events.
This event is free of charge and does not require prior booking. It operates on a drop-in basis, so you can simply arrive anytime between 09:00 and 11:00 on the day.
