Become part of a rewarding community effort to protect and restore the delicate beach dune ecosystem at Maroubra. This volunteer bushcare program offers a wonderful opportunity for families to engage with nature, learn about indigenous plants, and contribute to local environmental conservation.
Each session involves hands-on activities such as removing invasive weeds and planting native species to help preserve the natural dune environment. Volunteers will work alongside Council's experienced Bushcare Officers who provide guidance and support throughout the program. Expect to enjoy fresh air, gentle physical activity, and the satisfaction of making a positive impact on local biodiversity.
The bushcare sessions are held monthly on the first Thursday, running from 09:00 to 12:00. The program continues until December 3, 2026, giving plenty of chances to get involved. No prior experience is necessary, making it ideal for parents and children keen to learn about environmental stewardship together.
Meet at the car park near South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club, a convenient and accessible spot close to the beach. The location offers a beautiful natural setting where families can enjoy the outdoors while contributing to conservation efforts. Parking is available, and public transport options serve the area.
Please wear sturdy shoes, sun protection, and bring water to stay hydrated. Tools and gloves are provided by the Council. The beach dunes are a sensitive environment, so volunteers are asked to follow instructions carefully to protect indigenous flora and fauna. Children should be supervised at all times.
