Since 2017, the Cove Natty Knitters have been quietly stitching warmth, comfort and care into the community — one handmade item at a time. This dedicated volunteer group meets regularly to share their love of knitting while making a real difference for local charities and community organisations. Their creations range from toys and blankets to baby clothes and beanies, each crafted with a purpose to bring comfort to someone who needs it.
Joining the Cove Natty Knitters means becoming part of a warm and welcoming community. Members work on a variety of projects that suit their interests and skills, contributing in their own unique way. Throughout the year, the group focuses on specific causes, such as making palliative care blankets for Flinders Medical Centre and supporting different charities each month. Expect a friendly atmosphere where camaraderie and shared purpose flourish.
The group meets twice a month, at 10:00 on the second and last Tuesday of each month, at the Cove Civic Centre. Around 12 passionate members gather to knit items that support charities including Love, Hope and Gratitude Foundation, Australian Refugee Association, Foodbank, Backpacks for Kids, Angels with Wings, QEH Dialysis Unit, and more. Donations of wool or finished knitted goods are also welcomed to help extend their impact.
Meetings take place at the Cove Civic Centre, a convenient and accessible community venue. The centre provides a comfortable space for knitting and conversation, making it easy for new members to join and feel at home. Located in the City of Marion, the venue is well-serviced by public transport and has parking options nearby.
New members are always welcome to join the group, whether experienced knitters or beginners. The group values inclusivity and encourages everyone to contribute in their own way. The camaraderie extends beyond knitting sessions, with quarterly pub lunches and ongoing support among members. This is a great opportunity for parents looking to engage in a meaningful community activity while enjoying a creative outlet.
Attendance at the Cove Natty Knitters meetings is free of charge. There is no formal booking required; interested individuals can simply come along to the scheduled sessions. Donations of wool or finished knitted items are appreciated but not mandatory. This volunteer group thrives on community spirit and shared generosity.
