Celebrate NAIDOC Week by joining a unique creative and cultural workshop where you and your family can contribute to a beautiful community mosaic. This event invites participants to create personal totem wood-slice artworks that represent their identity, connection to Country, and stories of belonging.
Each participant will design and decorate their own wood slice oval disc, making this a meaningful and hands-on experience for all ages. The workshop embraces culture, creativity, and community spirit, perfect for families looking to engage in Indigenous heritage.
Enjoy a welcoming atmosphere with lunch provided, making it a great outing for parents and children to connect and learn together.
This two-part workshop runs on Wednesday 22 July from 10:00 to 13:00. Participants will start by outlining their design with pencil, then use an iron coil burner device to scribe their artwork onto the wood slice.
Each finished piece becomes a standalone artwork and a contribution to a larger mosaic installation representing many Countries, identities, and stories at the Lyora Matta First Nations Cultural Hub.
The event is free of charge and suitable for all ages, especially families wanting to celebrate Indigenous culture in a creative way.
The workshop takes place at the Lyora Matta First Nations Cultural Hub, located at 7 West Terrace, Bankstown 2200.
The venue is accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming community space dedicated to First Nations culture and heritage.
Families are encouraged to arrive on time to fully enjoy the creative process and the communal lunch provided.
This event is part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, marking 50 years of Deadly. It is a culturally respectful space celebrating Indigenous identity and stories.
Participants will be using an iron coil burner device for scribing, so supervision and care are important, especially for children.
Lunch is provided, but please inform organizers of any dietary requirements when booking.
The event is free to attend but requires booking to secure a place.
Spaces may be limited to ensure a quality experience for all participants.
Booking details are available through the City of Canterbury Bankstown website or by contacting the cultural hub directly.
