National Reconciliation Week 2026 invites families to engage in meaningful activities that celebrate and promote reconciliation in Australia. This special week encourages everyone to learn, reflect, and connect with First Nations culture and history through a variety of community events.
Experience a rich program including a traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, an official flag raising ceremony, and a morning tea featuring native flavors. Libraries will host First Nations book displays to deepen understanding through literature, while children can enjoy a First Nations-themed colouring-in activity at Waves Leisure Centre.
The week runs from Wednesday, 27 May to Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Key events include:
- Flag raising ceremony and morning tea on 27 May from 10:30 to 12:00 at Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place.
- First Nations book displays throughout Kingston Libraries.
- Kids' colouring-in activity at Waves Leisure Centre in Highett.
These activities are designed to be inclusive and educational, perfect for families wanting to engage their school-aged children in cultural learning.
The main event takes place at Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place, 199 Bay Trail Road, Mordialloc 3195. The venue is accessible by walking, cycling, and public transport, encouraging attendees to leave their cars at home. Additional activities are spread across Kingston Libraries and Waves Leisure Centre in Highett.
All events are free to attend. The week’s theme, "All In," encourages active participation in reconciliation efforts. Attendees are encouraged to respect the cultural significance of the ceremonies and engage thoughtfully with the activities.
