Nitja invites families to listen, learn, and reflect on the rich stories of Country shared through vibrant song, dance, and music. This event is a unique opportunity to connect with the heritage of the Whadjuk Noongar people and the wider community.
The event features a welcoming atmosphere where you can bring your picnic blanket and enjoy delicious offerings from local food trucks. The performance begins at sunset, creating a magical backdrop for this cultural celebration.
Expect a warm, inclusive environment guided by Elders and featuring renowned artists, making it a memorable experience for parents and children alike.
Activity Details
The event starts at 17:00 with cultural activities suitable for all ages, including weaving workshops led by Noongar artist Sharyn Egan. Food trucks offer a diverse range of dinner options, from crepes and Indian salads to pizza and Lebanese cuisine, plus tempting desserts.
At 19:00, the main performance begins, showcasing the talents of Noongar and Yamatji artists alongside live music by the band Mongeeya. The event concludes at 20:30, leaving you with lasting memories of this cultural gathering.
Bring your own plates, cups, and cutlery to help keep the event sustainable and the park clean for everyone to enjoy.
Location and Access
Nitja takes place at Dyoondalup Point Walter Reserve, Honour Ave, Bicton, WA 6157. The venue features wide paved pathways and accessible viewing areas close to the stage, making it suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
Parking is available at Point Walter Boat Ramp with some ACROD bays and additional accessible parking at the west entrance. The venue has permanent and portable accessible toilets.
The event area is a large open space with a sloping hill for seating on grass or paved ground near the river, providing beautiful views during the performance.
Important Information
This is a free event with no tickets required, open to the whole family. Pets are not permitted as the reserve is an A-class protected area.
The event will have amplified sound but no loud or abrasive noises, and no strobe or flashing lights.
Photography is welcome without flash; event photos may be used for promotional purposes by the City of Melville and Perth Festival.
Booking and Prices
Nitja is free to attend and does not require registration, though you can register your interest to receive updates. Bring your own picnic or enjoy food trucks onsite.
Please bring your own reusable foodware to support sustainability efforts. Remember to take your waste with you to help keep the park clean and green.
