What to Expect

Gather on the shores of Dyoondalup Point Walter for an enchanting evening filled with stories of Country shared through song, dance, and music. This unique event invites families to listen, learn, and reflect on the rich heritage of the Whadjuk Noongar people along the banks of the Derbarl Yerrigan - Swan River.

Enjoy a vibrant cultural program guided by Elders and featuring performances by acclaimed Noongar and Yamatji artists. Bring your picnic blanket and settle in as the sun sets, creating a magical atmosphere for all ages.

The event is free and open to everyone, with food trucks offering a variety of delicious options to complement your picnic experience.

Activity Details

- Arrive from 17:00 to set up your picnic blanket and explore cultural activities suitable for all ages, including weaving workshops with Noongar artist Sharyn Egan.

- The main performance starts at 19:00, featuring Mongeeya, Tehya Makani, and Jayden Boundry.

- The event concludes at 20:30, leaving you with unforgettable memories of connection and culture.

Please bring your own reusable plates, cups, and cutlery to help keep the event sustainable and the park clean.

Location and Access

Nitja takes place at Dyoondalup Point Walter Reserve, Honour Ave, Bicton, WA 6157. The venue offers wide paved pathways and accessible viewing areas close to the stage, ensuring comfort for all attendees.

Parking is available at the Point Walter Boat Ramp and along Burke Drive, with designated ACROD parking and set-down areas. The reserve is a large open space with sloping grassy hills and paved paths, perfect for families to relax and enjoy the event.

Accessible toilets are located near Walter's Cafe and additional portable accessible toilets will be available near the jetty side.

Important Information

- Amplified music and voices will be present, but no loud or abrasive sounds.

- The event is expected to attract up to 4,000 people, so some crowdedness in the viewing area is likely.

- Pets are not permitted as the reserve is an A-class reserve.

- Photography is welcome, but please avoid using flash. Photos and videos may be used for promotional purposes by the City of Melville and Perth Festival.

Booking and Prices

Nitja is a free event with no tickets required. While registration of interest is encouraged to receive updates, simply come along with family and friends to enjoy this special cultural experience.

Food trucks will be available offering a variety of cuisines including crepes, Indian, pizza, Thai, Lebanese, German, and desserts.

Bring your own picnic or enjoy the food trucks from 17:00 onwards.
