What to Expect
Experience the vibrant new expansion of Gunyama Park, featuring a playground designed for toddlers and primary school-aged children. The park offers exciting play elements such as tunnels, tube slides, swings, a flying fox, climbing ropes, in-ground trampolines, and musical obstacles. With over 150 newly planted native trees and a water play area, this green space invites families to explore and enjoy nature.
The opening event promises a lively festival atmosphere with a live DJ, roving entertainers, and plenty of kids’ activities. Skateboarding enthusiasts can join workshops led by the Totem Collective, with pro equipment provided and walk-up registration available. Food options perfect for a picnic will also be on offer, making it a delightful day out for parents and children alike.
Activity Details
The official opening begins at 1:30pm on Saturday, 15 August, with the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO, officially opening the park at 1:45pm. Skate workshops run from 1:15pm to 3:00pm, including a skateboarding class and a Self Expression JAM session. The park’s design reflects the local environment and Aboriginal cultural knowledge, featuring banksia scrub, native plants, and a learning circle to support intergenerational education.
Families can enjoy the large lawn area, barbecues, and picnic tables while children explore the playground’s diverse features. The event is free to attend and suitable for children of all ages, especially toddlers and primary school kids.

Gunyama Park is located at the corner of George Julius Avenue and Zetland Avenue in Zetland, NSW 2017. The park is easily accessible by public transport and offers ample space for families to gather and enjoy outdoor activities. Important Information
Participants in the skate workshops must sign an online waiver form, and pro skateboards and helmets will be provided by the Totem Collective. Walk-up registration is available for the workshops, which have limited spaces (20 students per class and 30 participants for the JAM). The event is family-friendly and encourages cross-cultural learning through its design and activities.
