Discover the joy of painting native birds with watercolours in this engaging workshop led by local artist Rebecca Prince. This session is perfect for parents looking to share a creative experience with their school-aged children or to enjoy some mindful artistic time themselves. You'll learn how to observe and capture the beauty of common backyard birds found in South Australia.
The workshop covers essential watercolour and drawing techniques, including how to make observational sketches and document what you see. Rebecca will guide you through composing a final artwork from your observations, helping you develop both your artistic skills and your appreciation for local wildlife.
This event is designed to be accessible and welcoming, providing a relaxed environment where creativity and learning come together.
The workshop runs on 10 March 2026 from 12:30 to 14:30 at the Torrens Valley Community Centre in Gumeracha. It is a low-cost event, heavily subsidised by Technology for Ageing and Disability SA Inc (TADSA), making it affordable for families and individuals.
Participants will need to bring basic art supplies if not provided, but the focus is on learning techniques rather than requiring expensive materials. The session is suitable for beginners and those with some experience in watercolour painting.
This is a community-focused event encouraging lifelong learning and artistic expression in a supportive setting.
The workshop is held at 45 Albert St, Gumeracha SA 5233, within the Community Hub that includes the Gumeracha Town Hall and library. Parking is ample with multiple areas around the community centre, including disabled parking spaces and well-lit access points.
Facilities include toilets (with disabled access), baby change tables, a fully equipped kitchen, and wheelchair access ramps. The centre is LGBTQI+ friendly, dementia friendly, and welcoming to breastfeeding parents.
Public transport options are limited, so driving is recommended. The venue is well-suited for families, offering a safe and comfortable environment.
The community centre closes during Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings for the Mt Lofty Ranges, with classes cancelled and fees refunded or rescheduled. Check fire danger ratings before attending.
Dress comfortably and consider bringing a torch or phone light if attending evening events. Weather-appropriate clothing is advised, especially in cooler months.
The centre encourages inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring all community members feel welcome and supported during the workshop.
Tickets cost $5 and must be booked online in advance. This subsidised price is thanks to funding from TADSA, making it an affordable opportunity to engage in creative learning.
Early booking is recommended due to limited spaces. For enquiries, contact the Torrens Valley Community Centre by phone at 08 8389 1711 or email tvcc@ahc.sa.gov.au during opening hours (Monday to Thursday, 9:00 to 15:00).
Refunds or rescheduling will be handled in case of fire danger closures or other unforeseen circumstances.
